Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 6 at its "Time Flies" event in September 2020. The Apple Watch platform has matured in design and software, but the company has boosted it again with new health features and more color and band options.
Recursos do Apple Watch Series 6
Since its launch, the Apple Watch has evolved to meet its core use case. It started life as a social/fashion focus with a few fitness features, but has grown into a fitness powerhouse andhealth device.
The Apple Watch Series 6 takes another step outside theIphoneshadow as a standalone device. The latest features along withwatch OS 7, make this the most independent watch yet.
blood oxygen sensor
Apple's most touted new watch feature is its blood oxygen sensor and the accompanying app. To use the feature, make sure the watch is snug on your wrist and doesn't move while reading. As long as you meet these requirements, it only takes 15 seconds to return the reading.
Measure your blood oxygen level with Apple Watch Series 6
The reading shows the percentage of oxygen present in the bloodstream. It achieves this by detecting the color of the user's blood using red and infrared light. The return value doesn't provide much information on its own, as it doesn't explain whether a reading is "good" or not.
Apple's vagueness about the amount is likely because it circumvented medical device requirements. Apple says that measuring blood oxygen is for wellness and fitness purposes only and is not intended to replace a medical device, such as a pulse oximeter, that requires federal approval.
If Apple started giving advice and saying it's good or bad, it could be getting dangerously close to a medical device and the regulation that goes with it. However, it is very easy to investigate healthy ranges.
heart health sensors
Apple has included all of the other sensors introduced in previous Apple Watch generations into the Apple Watch Series 6. It has a heart rate sensor that continuously monitors the wearer's heart rate every few minutes based on activity. If you are exercising, your heart rate will be monitored continuously for up to three minutes after exercising.
If it detects abnormal heart rates, it will notify the user. The Apple Watch cannot detect a heart attack, but it can warn users in advance of a fatal cardiac event if the heartbeat becomes too fast, slow or irregular.
Users can also perform an ECG using the latest Apple Watch models. Introduced with theApple Series 4 Rails, you can take an ECG using the built-in app. The watch must be worn set during measurement. The measurement is taken by placing a finger on the Digital Crown for one minute. The ECG app guides you through the process.
The ECG can detect possible atrial fibrillation, alerting users if a hospital visit is required. It can't give medical advice or provide a diagnosis, but it could be the first step in stopping a life-threatening condition.
An update in watchOS 7.2 allows the device to take an ECG while the user is experiencing high heart rates, up to 150 BPM. Previously, users with a fast heart rate had to wait until it slowed down to use the feature.
Fitness+
Launched during the "Time Flies" event,Compatibility with Apple+allows customers equipped with an Apple Watch and another Apple device with a display to complete guided workouts. Show a workout on an iPhone,iPad, oApple TV, the application will monitor the user's training through the sensors of the Apple Watch.
Apple Trainers offer a series of weekly study workout videos. They cover a variety of exercise types, including high-intensity interval training (HIIT), yoga, and strength training. Apple Watch data appears onscreen as an overlay, allowing users to track their progress without looking at their watch. This includes notifications for reaching fitness goals on your rings.
Fitness+ uses a personalized recommendation engine that takes into account previously completed workouts. It then suggests new options that match user preferences or different exercises to help maintain a balanced routine. Fitness+ users can also take advantage of a filtering tool to choose a workout based on workout type, trainer, duration or music.
Users who subscribeapple musicYou can save Fitness+ workout playlists to listen to later.
The service costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year with a 30-day free trial. Who buys a new oneApple Series 3 Railsor later, get three months of free Fitness+.
Fitness+ requires the user to wear an Apple Watch Series 3 or later. Users can share the subscription with up to five other people on Family Sharing at no additional cost. It is also available for use as part of the newapple oneenrollment.
ultra long band
The new flagship wearable is Apple's first to include the U1 Ultra Wideband chip, according to technical specifications listed on the company's website. Apple's UWB solution debuted withiphone 11em 2019.
It's unclear what features the U1 will add for Apple Watch owners. The chip currently serves as the backbone for the directional AirDrop functionality on the iPhone 11 and later phones and will serve as part of theCar keyssystem in upcoming vehicle models.
Apple designed the U1 to give mobile devices spatial awareness and precise location tracking capabilities. The system uses UWB to send repeatable signals between two devices to determine their relative position in space.
family setup
The new family settings on Apple Watch
Family Setup lets you set up your kids' Apple Watches without the need for your own iPhone. The children in the household are given a phone number for each Apple Watch, allowing the family to stay in touch even if the children don't have a phone.
Family settings allow parents to specify which contacts their children can communicate with. You can also send location push notifications to parents to monitor where your family is. Children can use Apple Watch to track their movements and all Apple Watch activity features.
Schooltime Mode is a feature that helps kids stay focused by limiting available resources and activating Do Not Disturb mode during the school day, giving them a unique watch face.
Family setup requires cellular Apple Watch, Series 4 or later.
Loop Solo and Loop Solo Braided
Apple has introduced a new bracelet that rotates without connectors or clasps. It's a simple elastic band that needs to be sized to fit.
Orders placed with the new wristband type required users to measure their wrist size using a paper printout, which led to some errors. Some users guessed their size without doing the measurement task. In order to receive a replacement, those who received incorrectly sized wristbands had to return all packaging, including the Apple Watch itself.
The twist-only loop must be sized in advance.
Before you buy, AppleInsider recommends trying the band on in person or using the paper sizing system..
Apple Watch Series 6 review
AppleInsider gave the wearable a rating of 4.5 out of 5
blood oxygen sensor
New to the Series 6 is an integrated blood oxygen sensor. It works similarly to the ECG sensor. It emits a myriad of lights on the back of your wrist, and a sensor measures the reflected light to determine your blood oxygenation.
Despite reported problems getting a blood oxygen reading, we had no such problems. There may be variability based on band fit, skin color and other factors.
The reading given to the user doesn't offer much information about what it means or what needs to be done. This is likely because the FDA has classified it as a non-medical device. Apple urges users not to rely on the Apple Watch for diagnosis and seek medical attention if necessary.
Taking a Blood Oxygen Reading on Apple's 2020 Smartwatch
We used the Apple Watch's oxygen sensor in conjunction with a medical pulse oximeter to verify the accuracy of the Apple sensor. The Apple Watch reading was usually one point, but it was three points in one case.
Despite appearing accurate in our tests, users should always look for medical grade readings if they suspect a problem. The Apple Watch is only intended to act as an early detection method, not a diagnosis of health issues.
to update
Initially, we were quite disappointed with the move to Apple's sixth-generation wearable. The core functionality remains the same, and the addition of the always-on altimeter and blood oxygen sensor is nowhere near reason enough to warrant an upgrade.
But, as Apple is wont to do, the little details made life with the wearable a better experience.
We started to notice the brighter screen. As the weather gets colder, we've been doing a lot of gardening and it's much easier to read what's on the screen without flicking your wrist. The idle state is more readable, as it should have been a year ago.
It also made a difference while we were working. The vivid fluorescent lights in our workout space erased the dull look of the previous generation, but now we can more easily take a quick peek at our workout. It's not quite perfect it seems and at other times it still required us to lift our wrist but it was absolutely an improvement.
Nike Sport Band no wearable 2020
Another benefit for us was speed. Out of the box, opening apps and other tasks wasn't much faster than in the past. But when we had to restart our watch, we noticed that the new Apple Watch restarted 15 seconds faster on average. Another area where speed was evident was Siri. When we raised our wrists to summon the titular virtual assistant, Siri's animation started much faster than before and felt more natural and fluid.
Apple's "noisy environment" alert was also faster, letting us know more quickly and reliably when we were in a noisy environment that could damage our hearing if we remain in its presence for too long. This feature already exists, but it worked much faster on this new model, as did the automatic unlock feature for Mac. Now he has unlocked ourMac ProyMacBook Proalmost twice as fast as before.
family setup
A significant change this year is the family setup. Non-iPhone users can now use their Apple Watch by setting up their watch with someone else's iPhone. This is for older family members or kids without a phone.
Once the watch is activated, it can work completely on its own. They can have their incoming phone number (which can be set to only allow calls to and from specific numbers), their own Apple IDs, and more. They can send messages, makeFacetimeaudio calls, fill your activity rings, and go dark during school hours with Schooltime.
Apple Cash Family allows parents to send money using Apple Pay as an allowance for chores well done. They can then spend that money on their own Apple Cash card throughapple payment.
Parents can see where their children are and receive alerts when they enter and leave.
It's a big change for the Apple Watch that only unlocks its potential for more users. The only downside is that it requires a cellular Apple Watch to set it up, which makes it a bit more expensive. Fortunately, the Apple Watch SE helps with that.
